Not everything – but still a variety of experiences shaped my life and character: Born in Verden/Aller (Germany) I financed my apprenticeship of photography and later my studies of Islamic Sciences and Political Sciences as factory worker, barkeeper, waiter, cab driver and journalist. That’s where I adopted the initials -ok- by which all my articles were characterized. Additionally, I served in the Federal German Armed Forces from recruit to Captain.
Studies, jobs, mission and travels in Islamic countries vom Maghreb to Mashriq confronted me with inequality of opportunities and limitations of freedom. Consequently, I committed myself to do my bit for a change by working for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) from 2008 onwards. Until 2013 I steered as country director of Pakistan our projects there before taking over FNF’s Asia and Human Rights Department overlooking our activities in these fields. In 2016 I got a new calling: Morocco. As Country Director for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom I contribute to strengthen civil society, rule of law and human rights in this fantastic place.
